On 29 September 2014, Utah Coalition of La Raza (UCLR) elected new officers, including its first new Board President in a decade. UCLR’s Board elected Jennifer Mayer-Glenn as its new president.
Mayer-Glenn takes over from long-time Board President Robert “Archie” Archuleta, who stepped down after long service to UCLR. Archuleta will remain a member of the UCLR Board, however.
Also elected were Alejandro Roark as Vice-President, the former Deputy Director of Equality Utah. The Board also re-elected Richard Jaramillo as Secretary and Joe Gallegos as Treasurer.
Mayer-Glenn has been an educator in the Salt Lake City School District since 1999, teaching at North Star Elementary for ten years, working 2 years at the district level as Alternative Language Services Coordinator, serving as Assistant Principal at Glendale Middle School for 3 years, and is currently Assistant Principal at Mountain View Elementary School.
In the coming months, UCLR will be revamping its efforts to better advocate going forward. These changes will be unveiled at the 2015 Cesar Chavez Peace and Justice Awards Banquet.
